Selected from the past ten years of Robert Bricker’s drawings from live models.
Robert’s profession is as realist figurative portrait sculptor, and bronze monument maker. But in his off hours, he loves to draw from the figure. In these drawings, his fluency with anatomy gives way to a priority on composition, imagination, and poetic ambiguity. In this exhibit, he shows various artworks made during life drawing sessions. Working from live models can be profound; a model’s effort to hold a pose forces his hand to decisiveness. Many of the mediums that Robert chooses to work with make indelible marks – unerasable. This creates a forward motion toward resolve. A cadenza. A soliloquy. At its best, life drawing is a sacred synergy between artist and model – a visual art call and response.
